What is the function of dispersant

2025 09/30

Dispersant is a chemical auxiliary that can evenly and stably disperse solid particles, liquid droplets or gas bubbles in another liquid (dispersion medium). Its core function is to prevent the aggregation and sedimentation of the dispersion, and to keep the system uniform.

Its working principle is similar to that of "mediator": one end is adsorbed on the surface of easily aggregated particles, and the other end is integrated into the dispersed medium. Through charge repulsion or spatial resistance effect, the originally "clustered" particles are kept away from each other and dispersed stably. For example, the pigment is easy to precipitate after adding water. Adding a dispersant can dissolve the pigment evenly, so that the color drawn will not be uneven in depth; adding a dispersant to the pesticide can make the active ingredients evenly distributed, and the effect of spraying on the crop will be more stable.
